What the TSLA token is
It is Robinhood’s stock token for Tesla on Robinhood Chain: a tokenized debt security issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited that tracks the share. Holding it is not holding Tesla stock — it carries no ordinary shareholder rights, and it adds issuer, contract and on-chain market risk on top of the share’s own.
Why the token and the share drift apart
The share trades on a stock exchange; the token trades in its own on-chain pool. Their prices are held together only by people who can move between them, and only approved institutions can create or redeem the tokens. So the gap can open and stay open:
- Pool depth. A thin pool moves on small trades; the premium on a deep pool is more meaningful.
- Market hours. The token trades around the clock, the share does not. Outside US hours the token reflects expectations, not a live quote.
- Demand for the wrapper. Buyers who want Tesla exposure on-chain can pay above the share; sellers can push it below.
- Corporate actions. Splits and dividends change how many shares one token represents; fair value is adjusted for them.
A premium means you pay more than the share is worth; a discount, less. Neither is a signal to buy or sell — the gap can last.
Make sure it is the real TSLA token
